Chanting to the Sky

In traditional societies, culture passes from one generation to the next in many ways, among which word of mouth is fundamental. In Senegal, knowledge, customs, and collective memory remain connected to oral traditions and a profound relationship with the sky. Dance, craft, poetry, and storytelling become ways of engaging with that relationship.

The proposal seeks to sustain this culture of telling while creating a place in which it can also be documented. At its center is a space for orature, the oral traditions that form part of Senegal's historical memory. Here, people can gather, dance, exchange stories, and deliberate on communal life. Workshops allow new generations to encounter ancestral knowledge, while a library acts as both a documentation center and a cinema during hot summer nights.

The project adopts the proportions of an average Senegalese man as its Modulor.
